Early life and rise to power

Born in 259 BCE, Ying Zheng became ruler of Qin and later expanded his power through military conquest and political consolidation. By 221 BCE, he had eliminated rival states and taken the title Qin Shi Huang, meaning First Emperor.

Unification of China

Qin Shi Huang ended the Warring States period by bringing the regional kingdoms under Qin rule. This created the first unified Chinese empire and marked a major turning point in Chinese history.

Reforms and administration

His regime centralized authority and established bureaucratic and administrative structures that influenced later dynasties. He is also remembered for standardizing key systems such as writing, currency, weights, and measures.
