Early life and education

Quincy Jones was born in Chicago in 1933 and later moved to Seattle, where he developed an early interest in music. He began performing professionally as a teenager and entered the jazz world as a trumpeter and arranger.

Music career

Jones became known as a bandleader, arranger, producer, and composer with work spanning jazz and popular music. He collaborated with many major artists and helped shape modern record production. He produced Michael Jackson’s albums Off the Wall and Thriller. He was recognised for collaborations with artists including Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, and Count Basie.

Film, television, and media work

In addition to records, Jones composed for film and television and produced a wide range of media projects. He is associated with the television miniseries Roots, for which he received an Emmy Award.

Jones was one of the most decorated figures in Grammy history, with 28 wins and 80 nominations cited by major sources. He also received an Emmy and other major honours for his artistic and humanitarian contributions.
