Early life and background

Robert Fripp was born in Wimborne Minster, Dorset, England, on 16 May 1946. He developed a highly individual guitar style and began a long career in rock and experimental music.

King Crimson

Fripp co-founded King Crimson in 1969 and remained the band's only constant member through several decades. The group is associated with albums such as In the Court of the Crimson King, Red, and Discipline.

Solo and collaborative work

In 1979, Fripp released his debut solo album Exposure. He also worked as a session musician and collaborator with artists including David Bowie, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, Daryl Hall, Blondie, and David Sylvian. His Frippertronics and Soundscapes recordings are part of his ambient output.

Teaching and later projects

Fripp founded Guitar Craft, a guitar-teaching project, and later the Guitar Circle. He has directed seminars internationally since 1985. In 1992, he co-founded Discipline Global Mobile, an independent music company, with David Singleton.
