Reagan was born in Tampico, Illinois, and later attended Eureka College. He worked as a radio sports announcer before becoming a Hollywood actor and television host.

Reagan entered elected politics in California and served as governor from 1967 to 1975. His governorship established him as a leading conservative figure within the Republican Party.

Presidency

Reagan was elected president in 1980 and re-elected in 1984. He was the oldest person elected U.S. president at the time of his first victory. His administration is known for supply-side tax policy, defence buildup, and a more confrontational early stance toward the Soviet Union, followed by later arms-control diplomacy.

Later life and legacy

After leaving office in 1989, Reagan’s public image remained highly influential in American politics. In 1994, he announced that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, and he died in 2004.
