He was drafted 23rd overall by Vancouver in 2003, won the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 2011, and represented the United States at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics.

Early life and junior career

Ryan Kesler was born in Livonia, Michigan, and developed as a hockey player in the United States. He later entered the NHL Draft after a strong youth and junior hockey progression.

NHL career

Kesler was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in 2003 and became a regular NHL centre for the club. He spent his first 10 NHL seasons with the Canucks before being traded to the Anaheim Ducks in 2014, where he finished his NHL career in 2019. He played 15 NHL seasons and appeared in 1,001 regular-season games, recording 258 goals and 573 points.

Playing style and awards

Kesler was widely regarded as a strong two-way forward who combined defensive responsibility with offensive production. He won the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 2011 as the NHL’s top defensive forward and was a finalist multiple other times. He was known for his two-way play and physical, agitating style.

International play

Kesler represented the United States at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics. The U.S. team won silver in 2010 and finished fourth in 2014.
