History
Shaw was founded in 1966 in Edmonton and later became Shaw Communications Inc. in 1993. It was incorporated in Alberta on 9 December 1966 as Capital Cable Television Co. Ltd. and changed its name to Shaw Communications Inc. in 1993. Founded by JR Shaw, it grew into one of Canada’s major telecommunications companies.
Services
The company offered broadband internet, television, digital phone and wireless services. Its operations included wireline services and wireless services through Freedom Mobile and Shaw Mobile. The business also included services for enterprise and public-sector customers through wireline and network divisions.
Acquisition by Rogers
Rogers Communications completed its acquisition of Shaw in 2023. After the transaction, Shaw’s operations were integrated into Rogers and its brand was gradually phased out. Most Shaw-branded operations were transitioned to Rogers branding after the acquisition.
