Sonny Styles grew up in Pickerington, Ohio. He comes from a football family: his father, Lorenzo Styles, played in the NFL, and his older brother, Lorenzo Styles Jr., also played football.

College career at Ohio State

Styles joined Ohio State as a highly regarded recruit and initially played safety. He later switched to linebacker, became a major defensive contributor, and helped the Buckeyes win the 2024 national championship. He was a senior co-captain and earned first-team All-America and first-team All-Big Ten honors in 2025.
