She served as the 32nd White House press secretary and communications director under President Donald Trump from 2019 to 2020, and later as chief of staff and press secretary to First Lady Melania Trump. She resigned on 6 January 2021, the day of the attack on the United States Capitol, and subsequently became a public commentator and author.

Early life and career

Grisham was born on 23 July 1976 and worked in Republican political communications before joining Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. Before joining the campaign, she held media roles in Arizona.

White House service

She became White House press secretary in July 2019 and also served as communications director. In 2020, she moved to a senior communications role for First Lady Melania Trump and later became the first lady’s chief of staff.

Resignation and later career

Grisham resigned on 6 January 2021, citing the day’s events at the United States Capitol. After leaving the administration, she wrote a memoir about her White House experience and became a public commentator.

Public role and political shift

By 2024, reporting described Grisham as speaking at the Democratic National Convention and criticizing Donald Trump’s actions and conduct. This marked a visible break from her earlier Republican-aligned career.
