Steven Van Zandt

Steven Van Zandt is an American musician, songwriter, producer, actor, and radio host best known as a member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band and for playing Silvio Dante on *The Sopranos*.

Early life and music career

Steven Van Zandt was born in 1950 in Winthrop, Massachusetts, and became active in the New Jersey rock scene. He co-founded Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes and later became a major figure in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band.

Acting career

Van Zandt became a well-known screen actor through his role as Silvio Dante in HBO's *The Sopranos*. He later starred in *Lilyhammer*, expanding his profile as an actor outside music.

Radio, label, and education work

Since 2002, Van Zandt has hosted *Little Steven's Underground Garage*, a syndicated radio program focused on garage rock and related styles. He also founded Wicked Cool Records and later created the Rock and Soul Forever Foundation and TeachRock.

Activism and legacy

Van Zandt has been associated with political and cultural activism, including the 1985 anti-apartheid project Artists United Against Apartheid. He is regarded as a prominent figure in American rock music and music education.
