Setting and factions

The setting presents a future in which Earth and Luna are represented by the United Nations, Mars is an independent military power, and the Outer Planets Alliance represents many Belt and outer-system communities. Its central powers include Earth, Mars, and the Outer Planets Alliance (OPA). This political structure drives much of the series’ conflict.

Reception

The Expanse became known for its detailed world-building, political intrigue, and comparatively realistic treatment of space travel. It developed a strong reputation among science fiction television audiences.
