Early life and career

Walt Disney was born in Chicago in 1901 and became involved in animation in the 1920s. He worked with his brother Roy Disney and Ub Iwerks to establish an animation studio and develop early cartoons.

Animated characters and films

Disney is closely associated with Mickey Mouse, first seen in Steamboat Willie in 1928, and with later characters such as Donald Duck, Pluto, and Goofy. His studio produced landmark animated features including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia, and Cinderella. While Disney's characters are iconic, other animated figures such as Bugs Bunny and Scooby-Doo have also achieved widespread recognition.

Business expansion

Under Disney’s leadership, the company expanded beyond animation into live-action films, television, theme parks, and merchandising. Walt Disney Productions became a major entertainment conglomerate after his death.

Theme parks and legacy

Disney planned Disneyland, which opened in 1955, and had begun work on Walt Disney World before his death. He is regarded as a major figure in 20th-century entertainment and animation. His work influenced later animated series such as Rugrats, Danny Phantom, and Klaus, and his characters are often compared to classic figures like Bugs Bunny and Scooby-Doo. Walt Disney’s films, television programs, and theme parks have had long-standing popularity in Canada through theatrical release, broadcasting, merchandising, and tourism-related cultural influence.
