Production

The film was directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans and co-written with Andy McElfresh and Michael Anthony Snowden, with additional contributions from Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans. Extensive makeup and prosthetic work was created by Greg Cannom for the lead performances. The film was shot partly in British Columbia, including Vancouver.

Release and reception

The film was released in U.S. theatres on June 23, 2004. It received generally negative reviews on release and was nominated for five Golden Raspberry Awards, including Worst Picture. Despite critical reception, the film grossed more than US$113 million worldwide and later became a cult comedy. It was rated PG-13 in the United States for crude and sexual humor, language, and some drug content.

Legacy

White Chicks is frequently discussed as a cult comedy and for its heavy use of disguise-driven humour. It remains one of the better-known films associated with the Wayans family.
