Plot

The story follows Din Song, a working-class college student, who discovers a teapot containing Long, a dragon who can grant three wishes. As Din tries to reconnect with his childhood friend Li Na, the film explores themes of friendship, class difference, and what matters most in life.

Wish Dragon was written and directed by Chris Appelhans in his feature directorial debut. The film was produced as a collaboration between Sony Pictures Animation and Chinese partners including Tencent Pictures and Base FX. Jackie Chan served as a producer and voiced Long in the Mandarin version of the film.

Release

The film was released theatrically in China on January 15, 2021. It later premiered internationally on Netflix on June 11, 2021, as a family-oriented animated feature.
