Premise

The series follows the staff of a failing radio station as management tries to revive it with a new music format. Much of the humor comes from clashes between the station’s eccentric employees and the station’s business pressures.

Creation and inspiration

Creator Hugh Wilson based the series on his observations of the real radio environment around WQXI in Atlanta. Several characters and story elements were inspired by people and situations he had encountered there.

Broadcast history

WKRP in Cincinnati premiered on CBS on September 18, 1978, and ended on April 21, 1982. It aired for four seasons, though later reruns and syndication increased its popularity.
