Mullins grew up in Greenfield, Indiana, and starred at Greenfield-Central High School. In his senior season, he posted major scoring and all-around numbers and broke school records for career, single-season, and single-game points. He was named Indiana Mr. Basketball in 2025 and was also recognized as a McDonald's All-American and Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year.
