Early life and education

Chuck Schumer was born on November 23, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Harvard College and later Harvard Law School. He began his political career in New York state politics before moving to Congress.

Schumer served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 to 1999. He was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1998 and took office in January 1999. He has represented New York in the Senate since then and was re-elected to a fifth Senate term in 2022.
