Early life and family

David Thomson was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on 12 June 1957. He is the son of Kenneth Thomson, 2nd Baron Thomson of Fleet, and inherited the family peerage as 3rd Baron Thomson of Fleet after his father died in 2006. He holds dual Canadian and British nationality.

Business career

Thomson became chairman of Thomson Corporation after his father's death in 2006 and later chairman of Thomson Reuters following the Reuters acquisition in 2008. He also serves as chairman of The Woodbridge Company, the Thomson family investment company. Bloomberg has identified him as co-chairman of Woodbridge and a principal shareholder of Thomson Reuters.
