Dick Grayson is a DC Comics superhero best known as the original Robin and later as Nightwing. Created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, he first appeared in 1940 as Batman’s acrobatic sidekick and later became an independent hero associated with the Teen Titans and Blüdhaven.

Publication history

Dick Grayson debuted in Detective Comics #38 in April 1940 and was created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane. He is the first character to use the Robin identity in DC Comics.

Fictional biography

Grayson begins as a circus acrobat and the youngest member of the Flying Graysons. After his parents are killed, Bruce Wayne takes him in and trains him as Batman’s partner.

Nightwing identity

In 1984, Grayson outgrows the Robin role and adopts the Nightwing persona. Under that name, he becomes an independent hero and protector of Blüdhaven.
