Early life and college career

Maya April Moore was born on June 11, 1989, in Jefferson City, Missouri, and grew up in Georgia. She played college basketball at the University of Connecticut, where she led the team to an NCAA record 150–4 record over four seasons and two national championships.

WNBA career

Moore was selected first overall by the Minnesota Lynx in the 2011 WNBA draft. She spent her entire WNBA career with the Lynx, winning four championships (2011, 2013, 2015, 2017). She was named WNBA Most Valuable Player in 2014 and WNBA Finals MVP in 2013.

International career

Moore was a member of the United States national team and won Olympic gold medals in 2012 and 2016. She is also described as a World Cup champion.

Retirement and activism

Moore stepped away from basketball to focus on criminal justice reform. She announced her retirement from basketball in January 2023. Her public profile has emphasized social justice work alongside her athletic career.
