Nana debuted in 1999 as a two-part prologue in Shueisha's Cookie magazine and continued as a full serialization from May 2000 to May 2009. It was later placed on indefinite hiatus, reportedly due to Ai Yazawa's illness.

Collected editions

Shueisha collected the chapters into 21 tankōbon volumes. By 2019, the series had more than 50 million copies in circulation. Nana has a Canadian readership through English-language manga publishing and library circulation, and it is part of the broader international manga market relevant to Canadian anime and comics fans, alongside series such as Bleach, Berserk, Dandadan, and Kaiju No. 8.

Adaptations

The manga was adapted into an anime series and two live-action films. These adaptations expanded the franchise beyond the original manga.
