Patty Mills is an Australian professional basketball player known for his long NBA career and for representing Australia internationally.

Patty Mills is an Australian professional basketball player who has played in the NBA since 2009. He is best known for winning an NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014 and for captaining the Australian national team to its first Olympic men's basketball medal at the Tokyo 2020 Games. Known for his three-point shooting and leadership, Mills has represented Australia in multiple Olympic Games and FIBA World Cups.

Early life and education

Patty Mills was born in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia. He began playing basketball with The Shadows, a junior club founded by his parents. He later attended Saint Mary's College of California, playing college basketball for the Gaels.

Professional career

Mills was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers in the second round of the 2009 NBA Draft (55th overall) and later established himself with the San Antonio Spurs. He won an NBA championship with the Spurs in 2014. He has also played for the Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks, Miami Heat, Utah Jazz, and Los Angeles Clippers.

International career

Mills has represented Australia in multiple Olympic Games and FIBA World Cups. He captained the Boomers at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where Australia won its first Olympic men's basketball medal, a bronze.

Recognition and off-court work

Mills is known for his advocacy on Indigenous rights and social justice. He founded the Team Mills Foundation and Indigenous Basketball Australia. In 2022, he was made a Member of the Order of Australia.
