Geography

Prince Edward Island is located off the east coast of Canada in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, separated from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia by the Northumberland Strait. It is the only Canadian province made up entirely of islands.

History

The island was explored by Europeans in the 16th century, later colonized by France, and became a British possession in 1763. It joined Canadian Confederation in 1873 and is remembered as the site of the Charlottetown Conference in 1864.
