Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise was born at Clarence House in London on 15 August 1950. She is the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip and the sister of Charles III.

Royal duties and title

Anne has undertaken official duties on behalf of the monarch since 1968. She received the title of The Princess Royal from Queen Elizabeth II in 1987.

Charitable and public work

She is patron or honorary president of hundreds of organisations, with charitable interests including sport, science, disability, and health. She has also been closely associated with Save the Children for more than 50 years.

Equestrian career

Anne has long been known for equestrian sport and won the individual gold medal at the 1971 European Eventing Championships. She represented Great Britain at the 1976 Olympic Games, becoming the first British royal Olympian.

Personal life

She married Captain Mark Phillips in 1973, and they had two children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, before divorcing in 1992. Later that year, she married Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence.
