He became widely known for leading a double life as a respected military officer and a serial sex offender and murderer. He received two life sentences with no parole eligibility for 25 years.

Early life and military career

Russell Williams was born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, England on March 7, 1963, and later emigrated to Canada with his family. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and rose to the rank of colonel, eventually becoming commander of CFB Trenton.

Criminal offences

Police linked Williams to a pattern of home break-ins, thefts of women's underwear, sexual assaults, and two murders in Ontario. He pleaded guilty to the murders of Marie-France Comeau and Jessica Lloyd, along with multiple other offences including sexual assaults, forcible confinement, and 82 counts of breaking and entering.

Trial and sentence

In 2010, Williams was sentenced to two life sentences for first-degree murder, with additional concurrent sentences for the other offences. His parole ineligibility period was set at 25 years.

Public attention

The case attracted wide attention because Williams had been a highly trusted military officer who flew prominent figures, including Queen Elizabeth II, before his arrest. He was a former base commander at CFB Trenton.
