Early life and career
Tony Parker was born on May 17, 1982, in Bruges, Belgium, and developed into a professional basketball player in France. He was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 28th overall pick in the 2001 NBA draft and quickly became their starting point guard. During the 2011 NBA lockout, he played for ASVEL Basket in France.
San Antonio Spurs career
Parker spent most of his career with the San Antonio Spurs, winning four NBA championships (2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014). He was named NBA Finals MVP in 2007, the first European to earn the award. Parker became the franchise's all-time leader in assists and earned six All-Star selections and multiple All-NBA honours.
Later career and retirement
After 17 seasons with the Spurs, Parker played one final NBA season with the Charlotte Hornets. He announced his retirement in 2019, finishing his career with more than 19,000 points and more than 7,000 assists over 18 NBA seasons.
International play and honours
Parker represented France internationally and won EuroBasket 2013 with the French national team. His career achievements, including being the first European NBA Finals MVP, led to his induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023.
