Early life and junior career

Brad Marchand was born on May 11, 1988, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He played junior hockey in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League before turning professional, developing in Atlantic Canada before entering the NHL as a Boston Bruins draft pick in 2006.

NHL career

Marchand began his NHL career with the Boston Bruins after being drafted in 2006. He played 16 seasons with the team and became one of its most productive forwards. He was named captain of the Bruins in September 2023. On March 7, 2025, Boston traded him to the Florida Panthers, and he signed a six‑year contract with Florida on July 1, 2025.

International play

Marchand has been a regular member of Canada’s national‑team program. His international résumé includes gold medals at the 2007 and 2008 IIHF World Junior Championships, the 2016 IIHF World Championship, and the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. He has also represented Canada at the 4 Nations Face‑Off.
