Rod Brind'Amour is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre and current head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes. Over a 21-season NHL playing career, he was known as a defensive forward, won two Frank J. Selke Trophies, and captained the Hurricanes to the 2006 Stanley Cup championship.

Playing career

Brind'Amour was selected ninth overall in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues. He played 21 seasons in the NHL for the Blues, Philadelphia Flyers, and Carolina Hurricanes, finishing with 1,484 regular-season games, 452 goals, and 732 assists. He became known as a two-way centre.

Achievements and honours

His major playing honours include the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 2005–06 and 2006–07, and a Stanley Cup championship with the Hurricanes in 2006 as team captain. He also recorded more than 1,100 points in the NHL and won a gold medal with Canada at the 1994 World Ice Hockey Championship.

Coaching career

After retiring in 2010, Brind'Amour moved into the Hurricanes organization in player development and coaching roles. He became an assistant coach in 2011 and head coach in 2018. In 2021, he won the Jack Adams Award as NHL coach of the year.

International play

Brind'Amour represented Canada in international competition on multiple occasions. His most notable result was helping Canada win the gold medal at the 1994 World Ice Hockey Championship.
